CHS is proud to announce Shane Munro and Annabelle Holliday as:

Athletes of the Week

February 3-7

 

Shane Munro, Senior - Unified Basketball 

As a member of the Clawson Unified Basketball team, Shane scored 14 points and had 3 assists in the win against Grosse Pointe South on Monday. He followed that performance with another 10 points at Grosse Pointe North on Friday. Shane is a crowd favorite during the Unified games with his famous “slide” during player introductions. 

 

Annabelle Holliday, Senior - Gymnastics

Annabelle, a Level 10 gymnast with Olympia Gymnastics Academy in Shelby Township, competed in the Dragon Invite last week in Blue Springs, Missouri where she placed 4th overall in the Senior C 18 and up Division. She captured a 2nd place finish in the Floor Exercise and a 3rd in both the vault and beam. Here is Annabelle's YouTube station - you can see her in action!

CHS is proud to announce Ben Therrien and Amber Reynolds as:

Athletes of the Week

January 27-31

Ben Therrien, Senior - Varsity Hockey

According to Ben’s head coach, Paul Fox, “Ben has been our go-to-guy on defense. Every game he goes up against the other team’s top lines and is our power play guy!  Ben is a good leader and works hard in every practice.” In the 4-0 win over Walled Lake Unified last Friday, Ben’s plus 3 was an integral part of the shut-out from his defense position.

 

Amber Reynolds, Freshman- Unified Basketball

Amber was a big part of her team’s victory over Sterling Heights last week with her spectacular dribbling through her legs and her pull-up jump shots from the free throw line.  Amber’s contagious smile and positive attitude is a big part of our Unified team. Amber is the chief crowd motivator with her antics on the floor, and a crowd favorite every time she scores a basket.

CHS is proud to announce Cameron Brewster and Charlie Verner as:

Athletes of the Week

January 20-24

 

Cameron Brewster, Freshman - Varsity Swimming and Diving

In two meets last week, Cameron was the top swimmer for the combined Lamphere-Clawson boys swim team. In a 112-66 win over Utica, Cameron recorded two individual first place finishes and was part of two 1st place relay teams. Cameron’s 2:12:57 in the 200 Free and 5:55:28 in the 500 Free were good for first place.   

 

Charlie Verner, Sophomore - Varsity Basketball

In two wins last week for the Trojans, Charlie was an integral part of the Clawson game plan. In a  48-27 win over Roseville, Charlie tallied 12 points, 9 steals and 5 assists. On Friday night, Charlie helped the Trojans hold WWT scoreless in the first half with stellar defensive play while scoring 2 fast-break layups off steals in the front court.

CHS is proud to announce Colin Snyder and Alex Verner as:

Athletes of the Week

January 13-17

Colin Snyder, Sophomore - Junior Varsity Basketball

In two victories last week, Colin led the young Trojans squad offensively. In a 55-35 win over Marine City on Tuesday, Colin scorched the Mariners for 24 points. He followed that performance with a 19 point outing on Friday in a 47-41 win over Lamphere. 

 

Alex Verner, Senior - Varsity Basketball

Some people call it Nerves of Steel - but the Trojans call it Alex Verner. Alex went perfect from the free throw line 9-for-9. Including 7 in the fourth quarter to lead the Trojans over Warren Mott Thursday night, 41-36. She finished with 15 points in the win that moved Clawson into first place in the MAC Silver. Earlier in the week, Alex tallied 8 points and 5 steals in a 42-15 win over Lamphere.

CHS is proud to announce Alex Cordone and Brooke Sarvello as:

Athletes of the Week

January 6-10

Alex Cordone, Sophomore - Varsity Basketball

Alex was an integral part of two big wins for the Trojans last week. In a win over Waterford Our Lady Lakes on Tuesday, Alex came off the bench and contributed 13 points. On Thursday at Center Line, Alex scored 15 points, including the game-winning 3-pointer with 1.7 seconds left in the game to propel the Trojans to a 59-58 win. . 

 

Brooke Sarvello, Freshman - Junior Varsity Basketball

In two games last week, Brooke was an important piece in the Trojans’ post game. She grabbed 4 rebounds in Clawson’s loss at Warren Woods Tower on Tuesday. On Friday night, Brooke scored 11 points off passes from fellow post player - Anna Smith. Brooke played solid defense and helped the Trojans to a 41-23 win.

CHS is proud to announce Michael Pizzo and Justice Biddle as:

Athletes of the Week

December 16-Jan3

Michael Pizzo, Senior - Varsity Wrestling

At the Macomb County Invitational over the holiday break, Michael Pizzo captured 3rd place in the 145 pound weight class. He followed that performance with4 wins at the Fitzgerald tournament on January 4. All 4 wins were by pin in the first period. Michael was voted as the Most Valuable Wrestler of the 145-285 weight classes for the tournament. 

Justice Biddle, Senior - Varsity Basketball

Justice played an outstanding game at Waterford Our Lady of the Lakes on Dec 16 recording 16 rebounds, 4 steals and 6 points. In a 44-31 win over MAC Sliver opponent Roseville, Justice continued to anchor the defensive effort recording 4 more steals and 6 rebounds. She also had 4 assists and 3 points against Roseville.

CHS is proud to announce Aidan Shapiro and Libby Myren as:

Athletes of the Week

December 9-13

 

Aidan Shapiro, Sophomore - Varsity Wrestling

Last week, Aidan recorded a victory over Troy and followed that up with a 4th place finish at the Lincoln Tournament on Saturday. He finished the week 3-3 at his 145 pound weight class in only his 4th year of competitive wrestling. Coach Holt named Aidan one of the captains of the Varsity team this week for his leadership on and off the mat - Aidan maintains a 3.95 cumulative GPA in the classroom while taking college-prep and honors courses.   

 

Libby Myren, Sophomore - Junior Varsity Basketball

Libby was an integral part to the JV girls basketball team’s one point victory over Lincoln on Friday. With under 30 seconds left in a tie game, Libby stepped to the free throw line and nailed the go-ahead basket as the Trojans held on for the win over the Abes. Earlier in the week, Libby played important minutes in her post position against Hazel Park, tallying 4 rebounds and playing solid defense in the post.

Jack Hartley, Senior - Varsity Football and Eva Ignash, Senior - Varsity Sideline Cheer 

Eva and Jack are the Fall Sports recipients of the Doug McKnight Award.  These two athletes display the attributes and qualities of the Doug McKnight Award:  Sportsmanship, Dedication, Enthusiasm, Leadership and a Sense of Humor.  Both athletes were honored at the Fall Sports Awards Night last week.

November 4-8

Nick Odeh, Senior - Varsity Football

Nick, a linebacker and running back, was the leader of a defense that allowed only 7.6 points per game during league play - 2nd in the entire MAC. Nick was the leading tackler on the team with 115 total tackles for the year. He had 10 tackles for loss, 2 fumble recoveries and 2 caused fumbles for a team that made the playoffs for the second straight season. 

Faith Chase, Freshman - Varsity Swim and Dive

Faith, a freshman, helped the Clawson-Lamphere swim team to a 3rd place finish at the MAC Gold Championships this weekend. Faith placed 5th in the 500 free and also was a member of the 200 free relay team at the league meet. Faith helped the team to a 3-1 mark in the MAC Gold and 4-3-1 overall.

Trevor Przeadzki, Senior - Varsity Football

Last Friday the Clawson football team advanced to the 2nd round of the playoffs for just the 3rd time in the school’s 92 years of football with a 28-0 shutout victory over Detroit Henry Ford.  Trevor demonstrated large amounts of grit and determination playing with several nagging injuries and still rushing for 93 yards on 17 carries and scoring a touchdown. Trevor's determination and courage served as an inspiration for the entire team and set the tone for the evening.

 

Alex Verner, Senior - Varsity Volleyball

Senior Captain Alex Verner led her team to a 2nd place in the Silver Division with 19 aces for the season, 147 kill points, 25 blocks and 81 digs. She was also on the 2019 All Tournament Tribune Team for the 2nd year in a row that is voted on by all attending coaches. Last week, Alex played her last home volleyball game at CHS leading the Trojans to a win over Hazel Park in 3 straight sets.

October 21-25

The Offensive Line - Varsity Football

Nate Vesper, Senior; Devin Sylvester, Senior; Nick Chance, Senior; Luke Crocker, Senior; Henry Shapiro, Senior; Michael Moss, Junior

Coach Sparks’ praised the efforts of the entire offensive line in the Trojans’ 41-14 win over South Lake on Homecoming. The six guys up front guided Senior QB Tristen Perry to 294 yards rushing, which broke a 56-year old school record for CHS. The offensive line consists of Center Luke Crocker, RT Devin Sylvester, RG Nick Chance, LG Henry Shapiro, LT Michael Moss and TE Nate Vesper. Without these six guys blocking and scheming on the line, the Trojans QB could not have rushed for 4 TDs and thrown for another. Good work, boys!

CHS is proud to announce Nick Chance and Renata Carlesimo and Anna Smith as:

Athletes of the Week

October 14-18

Nick Chance, Senior - Varsity Football

Nick, a 3-year varsity lineman, was an integral part of the Trojans 24-6 win over Clintondale on Friday night. Executing the game plan with expertise, Nick recorded 7 tackles on defense and minimized Clintondale’s potent running game, as the defense held the Dragons to 72 yards rushing and less than 3 yards per carry. Nick’s dominant performance on the offensive line consisted of 2 pancakes on 2 consecutive TD runs for the Trojans. 

Renata Carlesimo, Sophomore and Anna Smith, Freshman - Varsity Volleyball

The setter duo of Renata and Anna led the way for the Trojans in three wins last week over Shrine, New Haven and South Lake. The wins improved the Trojans’ record to 5-3 in the MAC Silver. Renata has 217 assists for the year while Anna has 149 assists. Either Renata or Anna is always on the floor during every match working hard to set up the hitters in the front row.

October 7-11

Tristen Perry, Senior - Varsity Football

Tristen, the starting quarterback for the Trojans, led his team to a 35-20 victory over Lincoln on Friday to set up a championship game against Clintondale this week. The senior rushed for 106 yards and 3 TDs against the Abes. Against Lamphere, Tristen carried the ball 26 times for 201 yards and 2 TDs. As a 2-way starter, Tristen very rarely leaves the field as he plays defensive back on the other side of the ball. 

 

Makayla Mature, Junior - Varsity Swim

Mikayla has been on the Varsity Girls Co-op Swim team with Lamphere for the past 4 seasons. Coach Sage says that Mikayla has really improved her strokes which has earned her a position of anchor of the 200 yard Free Relay this season. Mikayla also participates in the 200 yard Medley Relay and the 100 yard Fly. According to her coach, Mikayla is a great team player and will do anything needed for the Swim Team to be successful.

CHS is proud to announce Spencer LaMotte and Charlie Verner as:

Athletes of the Week

September 30-October 4

Spencer LaMotte, Senior - Varsity Soccer

In 3 important league games last week, Spencer emerged as one of Coach Wickham’s senior leaders and was named the third captain after his stellar play and leadership on the field. In a 5-1 win over Sterling Heights on Senior Night, Spencer netted 2 goals. He had a strong game on the outside against Marysville and added a tally in the 2-1 win over Lakeview where the Trojans clinched the MAC Blue Championship. 

 

Charlie Verner, Sophomore - Varsity Volleyball

In the absence of senior starter, Alex Verner, her sister Charlie stepped up to fill the void. Taking on a larger role than normal, Charlie helped the Trojans push Warren Woods Tower to 5 games with excellent front row play. She then led the charge in a league win over Hazel Park. Charlie has 19 aces, 61 kills points and 29 blocks and 28 digs for season so far.

CHS is proud to announce Colin McClure and Dylan Shea and Abbey Lodato and Claire Thomson as:

September 23-27

 

Colin McClure, sophomore and Dylan Shea, sophomore - Varsity Tennis

In two matches last week, the number 1 doubles duo of Colin and Dylan captured two wins for the Trojans. They had a notable comeback win over Utica on Monday. After losing the first set 2-6, Colin and Dylan made some appropriate adjustments to their game to win 6-3 in the second set and battled to a 10-8 win in the tiebreaker. Colin and Dylan are 4-3 for the season playing at the #1 Doubles slot during league play.

 

Abbey Lodato, sophomore and Claire Thomson, sophomore - Varsity Cross Country

Abbey and Claire led the varsity girls cross country team last week at the MAC Blue Jamboree at Lake St. Clair Metropark. Among 13 teams represented at the meet, Claire finished first and Abbey followed in 3rd place to help the Trojans earn a 5-8 record for the day. The ladies were also impressive at the tough Old Skool Classic race last weekend. The race includes river crossings, mud pits, tree roots, and steep hills. Claire was the top sophomore among 40 schools represented and Abbey finished 4th in the sophomore race.

CHS is proud to announce Bruce Smith and Grace Back as:

Athletes of the Week

September 16-20

Bruce Smith, senior - Varsity Soccer

In 3 games last week, Bruce had a 0.00 Goals Against Average. Against Lakeview, he recorded 12 saves in a 3-0 win for Clawson. He followed it up with 18 saves against Royal Oak to help the Trojans earn a 0-0 tie against the Ravens. Prior to last week, Bruce made a save on a penalty kick against Sterling Heights that sparked a 3 goal rally. Bruce has allowed 2 goals in 7 league games this year.  

 

Grace Back, junior - Varsity Swimming

Grace is a 3rd year Varsity swimmer with the Lamphere-Clawson Co-op girls swim and dive team. Grace has been an integral part of the team’s success this year posting personal records in the 100 yard Breaststroke. In a recent meet against Lakeview, Grace grabbed third place in the 100 Breaststroke with a time of 1:35.18. She followed that up with a 4th place finish in the 100 yard Free (1:12.78) and was a member of the 400 yard Free Relay and 200 yard Medley Relay.

CHS is proud to announce Aliyah Vesper and  Tendaji Alexander as:

Athletes of the Week

September 9-13

 Aliyah Vesper, sophomore - Varsity Volleyball

Aliyah helped sparked the Trojans to its first victory over Lamphere on Thursday with 9 kills and 7 digs. She followed that performance with an outstanding outing at the Tribune Tournament on Saturday. She was voted by all coaches to the All-Tournament team and shared the Most Valuable Player honors for her 16 kills and 12 digs at the tournament. 

Tendaji Alexander, sophomore - Varsity Football

Tendaji had an outstanding performance this past Friday at home against Center Line. Tendaji tied a long-standing school record by intercepting 3 passes in the Trojans 27-0 shutout victory over league-rival Center Line. In addition to his stellar defensive performance, he led the Trojans on offense with 2 receptions for positive yards.

Athletes of the Week 9/6

CHS is proud to announce Alex Cordone and Hannah Saunders as:

Athletes of the Week

September 2-6

Alex Cordone, Sophomore - Varsity Soccer and Varsity Football

Alex scored 3 goals on Wednesday against Warren Mott to guide the Trojans to a 4-1 win. Alex has 11 goals in 7 games with 3 multiple goals games recorded so far. On Friday night, Alex joined the Varsity Football team and kicked a 31-yard field goal and an extra point for the Trojans.

Hannah Saunders, sophomore - JV Volleyball 

Hannah then helped her team battle back in set 2 against Waterford Our Lady of Lakes on Friday scoring 8 straight points with solid serving. At the Fitzgerald tournament on Saturday, Hannah "was diving all over the place" according to her coach which helped spark the Trojans to a 1st place finish in the Gold Pool.
