Clawson defeated Shrine in four sets (18-25, 25-20, 25-22, 25-15) on Monday.

Alex Verner led the Trojans with 11 kills and five digs, and Charlie Verner had six kills and four blocks. 

Gabrielle Kalcec had nine blocks, and Hayley Kauffman had three kills and two blocks. Renata Carlesimo had 22 assists and two kills, and Aliyah Vesper had seven kills. 

Clawson fell behind 22-9 in the first set, but fired off seven straight points to cut the deficit before Shrine finished the opening frame with a 25-18 win. The Trojans carried that momentum into the second set, aided by a strong first rotation where Renata Carlesimo served at least four points in a row each time she was handed the ball, and Clawson evened up the match after winning the second set 25-20.

The two teams exchanged runs in the third set, with Shrine turning a 13-9 deficit into a 16-13 advantage. Clawson responded shortly thereafter, trailing 22-18 before Charlie Verner served seven straight points to give Clawson the 2-1 lead.

Both teams looked evenly matched yet again early in the fourth set, with Shrine leading by as many as four points. This time, Ava LaMotte helped give the Trojans the 15-13 lead behind her five serving points, including one ace. Shrine then tied the match 15-15, but Charlie Verner held her serve once more, stringing together two aces during her 10-point run and ultimately putting Clawson up 25-15 in the fourth, and 3-1 in the match.

Clawson improves to 6-11-4 overall.
