Three Trojans finish top 10 at Old Skool, Boys finish 7th Overall

Game Date
Sep 21, 2019

The Old Skool Classic is a challenging race with river crossings, mud pits, tree roots, hills, and a barnyard aroma.  This is the only race in the Trojan's season in which the runners are not divided by varsity and JV, but by grade level.  After the middle school races there are 8 grade level races.  40 high school sent runners to the races and Clawson represented itself well with 3 of their 11 runners taking a top 10 spot.

Claire Thomson won the sophomore race with a time of 20:01.  She took the lead early, but lost it after tripping on a tree root after the first mile.  She regained her lead by charging up the last large climb of the day and holding off late race surges by Davison's Kylie Eaton.
Abbey Lodato was also in the sophomore race and took 4th place in the orange division with a season best time of 21:22.
Sarah Spielbush set a season record for herself and fnished 13th in the junior race.
Sam Brown suffered a rolled ankle early in the race, but regrouped and finished the 5k course more than a minute faster than she was last year and quick enough for a 10th place medal.

On the boys side, Ryan Lodato continues to be the Trojan to beat.  He had a long week filled with soccer games, but was able to catch an early bus and finish the race in 21:01.
In the freshman race Luke Wilder continues to show promise.  Luke broke his foot early in the season and was unable to run for weeks.  Despite the challenges of this course he was able to race faster than he did at Holly last weekend.  Fellow freshman Gabe Stevens finished just after Luke and continues to race hard.
Sophomores Jon Price and Nico Nader overcame a crowded course and slick mud to finish their races in respectable fashion.
The senior race is the last race of the day and Jon Dickey persevered through the heat to complete the race.  In his last time racing Old Skool, Michael Pizzo ran a season best 21:15 and just missed a 10th place medal by 7 seconds.
The boys finished 7th overall in the orange division.
