The Trojans trekked to Algonac on Saturday morning to compete in the Muskrat Classic.
Azara Merritt was the top finisher for Clawson. Her time of 9:27.8 was the 15th fastest of all 211 girls that finished the 1.4 mile race. The Trojans are a young team this year. Only 2 of the 10 girls that raced for Clawson had competed last season. Returning runners Lilith Becker and Kate Ketepa each ran much faster than they did at the 2023 Muskrat Invite. The rest of the squad showed tremendous perseverance in completing their first cross country race.
In the boys' race Amarion Turner used a strong 2nd half effort to power himself through the pack and finish as the top Trojan of the day. His time of 9:03 was nearly 4 minutes faster than his performance at the 2023 race. Holden Truesdell was quick off the line to start the race. The boys' race had 275 finishers and at one point he was as high as 4th place. He eventually dropped back into the pack, but had a great showing for his debut. He was the 13th fastest 6th grader in the race. Owen VanNostrand began his final middle school cross country season by improving his Muskrat Classic time by nearly two minutes.
The middle school Trojans are looking forward to racing at the Old Skool Classic at Wolcott Mill next Saturday. The race is unique, because it features two river crossings in which the athletes run through the Clinton river.
