At Center Line's Early Bird Invite on Thursday, Clawson was the only team to bring middle school athletes.  The runners started the race with the high school racers and then completed one or two of the 1-mile loops before finishing.  Of the thirteen Mustangs who finished the race, eight of them set a personal record.  8th grader J.J. Helmer was the first middle school boy to cross the  2-mile, completing the race in 13:43.  Jackson Sines was 2nd for the Mustangs and Mason Hodges bettered his season best by 33 seconds. 
6th grader Frankie Sines was the first girl with a time of 15:22.  Fellow 6th graders Ellie Barnes and Lucy Thomson took 2nd and 3rd respectively.  7th grader Elyse Swinson took 15 seconds off her time from the Watermelon Invite.  Calleigh McMillan was planning on only racing 1-mile, but made an in-race decision to run the second lap and took 5th for the Mustangs!

In the 1-mile race Ellie Maurer, Sarah McLeod both set season records in the distance.  Caden Jones was the first boy to finish. Noah Hodges and Anthony Vega each each had big time drops for personal records at the distance. 

The cross country team will travel to Northville's Cass-Benton park on September 7th to race 1.5 miles at the UDM Tommy Titan Invite.   

With school starting next week the team is looking to add some more runners to the squad.  Any student interested in joining should stop by the main office or email coach Thomson at dthomson.math@gmail.com.
