Clawson Girls Varsity Tennis wrapped up the division title early as the sole unbeaten team in the division.  They don't need a win in next week's division opponent, Centerline.   Captain Olivia Bailey, usually playing doubles, was required to fill in at fourth singles.  She won in style, 6-0, 6-0. Olivia's match record is 11-0 for the season and 22-0 in sets won.  Clawson was perfect in the win recording 60-0 in games. Clawson's record moves to 9-2 and 6-0 in their Mac division.  Clawson will play another highly ranked opponent in University Liggett on Friday away. Against perennial top ten team Clarkston Everest Collegiate, Clawson took their second loss of the year with a score of 3-5.  In actual matches played Clawson won 3-2, but defaulting three matches was too much to overcome. Two players took significant steps  toward seeding in the state qualifier.  # 2 Singles Hannah  Saunders and #3 Singles Abby Holmes won by identical scores 6-0, 6-1.  Clawson is 8-2, the two losses by only one point each, against top ranked teams. Clawson Girls Varsity Tennis put a vise grip on the division championship by defeating South Lake HS on Friday.  With two league matches remaining they have a magic number of one and control their own destiny.  They continued to win decisively in straight sets across the board. They advanced to 8-1 overall and 5-0 in the MAC. Clawson Girls Varsity Tennis swept Eastpointe HS.  Clawson moved to 7-1 overall and 4-0 in the MAC.  Layna Thompson playing #1 singles and Hannah Saunders playing #2 singles both won by identical scores of                 6-0,6-0. Clawson plays at Southlake HS on Friday.

With no room for error Girls Varsity Tennis sunk Marine City on Friday, April 24th. Clawson started the season without a third and fourth doubles team. Things became even more difficult when they lost fourth singles to injury. They were perfect on the day winning every match in straight sets, and dominating Marine city on every court. Clawson Girls Varsity Tennis suffered their first loss of the season to Regina High School. It was very very close and an injury at #4 Singles was a likely difference maker. It was a non-conference match against a tennis power. Three Clawson flights made a huge step toward seeding for the State regional qualifier, by winning against Regina.  Our #1 Singles, Layna Thompson won going away.  #2 Doubles, Capt. Olivia Bailey and partner Arnela Pobric dominated.  #1 Doubles Ava LaMotte and Natty Lertkasem lost the first set, came back and won the second set and match tiebreaker convincingly.  Girls Varsity Tennis stretched their unbroken winning streak of sets to 64.  They beat rival Bishop Foley 6-2.  Captain Olivia Bailey and her partner, Arnela Pobric didn't lose game in their match.The Bishop Foley coach asked them if they would play a practice match since they were done quickly and Clawson doesn't have enough players for third and fourth doubles. She told Bailey and Pobric they were very good and asked them if they would take it easy on her third doubles team in the practice match.  Clawson is now 4-0. It was a cold evening for tennis. It was rumored coach John froze his keister off.  It wasn't enough to cool off the red hot Girls Varsity Tennis team which has won 52 straight sets without a loss.  Sophmore Abby Holmes faced set game against her, but reeled off 9 games in a row to win in straight sets.  Sterling Heights was the first division match of the year.
